How to Save Electricity using Energy Efficient Appliances

How to Save Electricity using Energy Efficient Appliances
Want to save electricity to reduce your monthly bills? You can definitely do this with energy efficient appliances. By installing fluorescent lights, or even transplanting a few small trees around the house, you are already contributing to the Earths well being and yours as well. Electricity saving just doesn't help you. Think of it this way, each tree you plant will give 80KG of oxygen annually to contribute to the environment. On any given day, you could seal the windows and doors with protective rubber or plastic lining. This could cut down your energy bill by about 60% or more. Small cracks inside the house will allow drafts of cold air to come in which in turn, will have one of the family members cranking up the heater.

Instructions

Step 1
The first step to saving electricity is protecting your home from any hot or cool air coming in. If you are in the late, hot summer months - you may want to check under all the doors. Most doors were poorly built with about 1 or even 2 inches available for warm air to seep into your home. If you really want to save electricity, get some seals to place underneath all entries. They are also available in window forms as well. You could ask someone in home depot, or check around online.

Step 2
Consider getting fluorescent lights to encourage your electricity saving. Although they do not appear attractive, they can definitely trim the bills. These lights may be more expensive, but you will save several times their purchase price each year. Also, only turn your lights on at night or when needed for work situations, cooking, etc.

Step 3
For your refrigerator, you should apply the lowest setting possible. You can save electricity by opening the door of this appliance and locating the power saver switch. It should be on the inner wall or located on the side. This goes for all energy efficient appliances, make sure everything is on low - including your heater. Your fridge may be directly in the sun and this is not a good idea because it will have to work harder to cool your foods. Move it to an alternate location immediately.

Step 4
When you are not in the home, or you are sitting around and not using electronics - all of them should be turned off. This includes your TV, DVD player, portable heater, and computer. Even if all of them are on standby, they can still consume watts. Even a small amount will add up to a lot. If you have left the home, unplug every electronic you can think of. Some more ideas are an electronic toothbrush, printer, fax, and video game console. When applying all these together, you can relax when the electricity bill comes.

Step 5
More energy efficient appliances can be your washer, or even the dish washer. About 70-80% energy is used by the washing machine. Mainly, it is from having to heat the water in order to run the washer. Think about purchasing a new one if you've had yours for more than five years. Look for the Energy Star to find the washers that don't require as much energy when using water and spinning cycles. Always put your spin cycle on a faster mode so it can extract water easily.
